CDP Choline for Brain Repair and Support

Brain health is a big one. I don’t know about you but I am counting on my brain to be healthy and strong for many years to come. When we look at the rates of neuro-degenerative diseases today, it behooves us to pay attention to what supports and builds a healthy brain. Diet is certainly one of those factors.

Science is definitely catching up with what practitioners know, low carb and reduced grain diets mean healthier brains in our later years. Some are calling Alzheimer’s Type 3 diabetes because of the blood sugar connection. We educate every day on the benefits of a grain free and lower carb diet. Our DIY and Group programs have a grain free diet as their foundations.

But, I also wanted to share a really exciting supplement that I have seen tremendous gains in both my own family and my clients and friends. CDP Choline

Cytidine Diphosphate Choline is an active lipotrope of choline that restores brain levels of Phosphatidylserine, Phosphatidylcholine and Sphingomyelin which are crucial to the function of neurons and the myelin sheath that protects them. It also increases brain levels of key neurotransmitters like acetylcholine (for memory), dopamine (for fine motor control and mood), and norepinephrine (for mental energy). With all of the above modulating activities, it isn’t surprising that CDP Choline has so many beneficial effects on brain, helping to maintain optimal brain function and balance. In a nutshell, CDP Choline is great for the brain! Take a look at the latest article I wrote for the New Beginnings Nutritionals newsletter. The Brain Benefits of CDP Choline

Have you heard about CDP Choline? This supplement has extensive literature on the benefits to the brain. The benefits range from memory enhancement, support after concussion, stroke and other forms of brain injury to even supporting those with neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinsons. Choline also plays a key role in cognitive function, cardiovascular function, and infant development. Choline is also required for myelination in the brain! The possibilities for all people who need brain support are incredible! So let’s explore this supplement more.

For anyone who has experienced head trauma like concussion, CDP Choline has been helpful in reducing post-concussion symptoms. One study also looked at its role in accelerating recovery from head trauma and post-traumatic coma and the recuperation of walking ability. Below are a couple of research articles on the use of CDP Choline for concussion.

Stroke is another condition where the use of CDP Choline has been studied with good results. As a matter of fact, CDP Choline has been approved for use in stroke, head trauma and other neurological disorders in Europe and Japan. For research on CDP Choline and stroke, see studies below.

Do you know someone who could use some memory support? Several studies on CDP Choline found the supplement helpful for memory enhancement, especially in age related decline. Imagine if a supplement could help provide the needed brain support as we age!

CDP Choline is also shown to be an inhibitor of PLA2 activity. PLA2 stands for Phospholipase A2 and is an enzyme that triggers inflammation in the body. During infection, PLA2 is useful in destroying invading microbes. However, when this becomes chronic as a result of long term infections or other conditions, widespread damage can occur. Elevated PLA2 levels are implicated in MS, cancer, RA, allergies, Crohn’s Disease, mental health issues and many other conditions. It can be tested through The Great Plains Laboratory and this article by Dr. William Shaw talks about using CDP Choline to reduce PLA2 levels.

CDP Choline can be a useful supplement for a wide range of neuro-degenerative disorders to support brain function post-injury or just as a part of a healthy aging protocol.
